What Should I Do If I Lose a Contact Lens in My Eye?

Wearing contact lenses can feel easy, until one goes missing in your eye!

Don’t panic!

A contact lens can’t get lost behind your eye. It may just be stuck or folded somewhere under your eyelid. Here’s what you can do:

1. Stay Calm

Your contact lens is still in your eye, it just moved out of place. Take a deep breath and try not to rub your eyes.

2. Wash Your Hands

Before touching your eye, wash your hands with soap and water. Dry them with a clean towel. This keeps your eyes safe from dirt and germs.

3. Look in the Mirror

Stand in front of a mirror with good lighting. Gently pull your upper and lower eyelids apart and look around. The lens might be visible on the white part of your eye.

4. Blink or Use Eye Drops

Sometimes blinking or using a few eye drops can help the lens move back into place or come out on its own.

5. Check Under Your Eyelids

  • Gently lift your upper eyelid and look down.

  • Then pull your lower eyelid down and look up.

Sometimes the lens hides there. So if you see it, use your fingertip to move it back to the center of your eye and take it out.

6. Still Can’t Find It?

If you still can’t see or feel the lens, it may have already fallen out without you noticing. Check your clothes or the area around you.

7. Call Your Eye Doctor

If the lens is stuck, your eye feels irritated, or you’re unsure if it is still there, don’t wait, we are here to help.
